Why We Walk for March of Dimes

Our Preemie Miracle...
Sophia Paige Kinker..

1lb 12 oz
13.5 inches

On September 30, 2003, our whole world changed.
Sophia Paige was born 16 weeks early. She weighed 1lb 12oz
and was 13.5 inches long. We were told that she had less than
a 30% chance to survive. After 5 long months in the
NICU(neonatal intensive care unit), Sophia finally came home.
During that 5 months, we were told she had a 90% chance of
never walking or talking due to a brain bleed and swelling.
At 1 month old, she had eye surgery. She was on a ventilator to
help her breathe for the first 3months of life. At 3 months old,
she was taken off the vent, but was still getting oxygen.
On March 2, 2004, Sophia finally came home. She was on
oxygen and had a nasal feeding tube. By the time she was
a year old, she was feeding tube and oxygen free!

Sophia is now 4.5 yrs old. Just looking at her, you'd never
know she had such a rough start. She is very intelligent,
loves ballet, and is very girly! She is in preschool and will
soon be taking gymnastics classes. She is also one of the
tallest kids in her class!
